Benefits of Gypsum Ceilings & How Are They Installed?
What are the Advantages of Gypsum Ceilings?
Drywall ceilings offer fire protection. Pure gypsum carries around 20 chemically bonded water, and when exposed to fire, the water is gradually released in vapour. The layer of vapour on the gypsum serves to delay the calcination process. The process keeps the temperature on the other side of the board to about 100 degrees Celsius. This means that the material on the other side is kept below 100, which is not high enough to ignite the material on the other side.
Blocking the transfer of undesired sound to adjoining areas is a major consideration when designing a building, especially when taking into account the activities taking place in various parts of the building. Gypsum board ceilings and walls effectively assist in controlling sound transmission.
Gypsum boards are used to create high quality and durable ceilings and walls, offering great dimensional stability. Surfaces created with gypsum board can be easily decorated and refinished.
How are Gypsum Ceilings Installed?
Drywall ceilings are fastened into wooden batons using drywall screws. The joints are fastened closed with drywall tape which is also known as fibre tape. The joints are then skimmed with rhino-glide for an even and smooth finish. After this process, the drywall ceiling is primed and coated with a clear acrylic PVA.
Are Gypsum Ceilings easy to Install?
Gypsum board buildings are extremely easy to install for a number of reasons. Gypsum panels are comparatively large when compared to other materials. These boards come in 4ft wide sheets and in lengths of 12, 10 and or 8ft, quickly covering large ceiling and wall areas. Gypsum ceiling board construction requires a few tools to be assembled.
How is Gypsum Board manufactured?
Drywall is a panel made of calcium sulfate dehydrate, also known as gypsum, typically extruded between two thick sheets of backer paper. The plaster is mixed with a foaming agent, fibre, plasticizer and a range of additives that decrease mildew, increase fire resistance and decrease water absorption.
